Women's Gymanstics Places Second At M.I.T.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts women's gymnastics team defeated host M.I.T. en route to a second-place finish here on Tuesday night. The Minutewomen recorded a 178.450 team score, three points better than M.I.T. Alaska-Anchorage captured the team title with a score of 183.600. With the split, UMass is now 2-10 on the season.
The Minutewomen were again led by junior Megan Donoghue (Tewksbury, Mass.), who captured her second all-around title of the year. Donoghue finished the meet with an all-around total of 37.450. She also won the balance beam competition with a 9.675, her second-highest score of the season. Donoghue finished second on both vault and floor exercise, with scores of 9.225 and 9.400, respectively.
Freshman Nicole Groccia (Brooklyn, N.Y.) finished fourth on the balance beam with a 9.525 in her first-ever collegiate balance beam competition.
The Minutewomen will return to action this weekend as they welcome Temple to Boyden Gymnasium. It will be just the second home meet of the season for UMass, which finished a five-meet road trip on Tuesday evening. Saturday's dual-meet between the Minutewomen and the Owls is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
