Skiing Races At Boston College Carnival

ASCUTNEY MOUNTAIN, Vt. -- The University of Massachusetts ski teams competed in the Boston College Carnival this weekend at Ascutney Mountain, Vt. The men's team finished third in the both the giant slalom and slalom, while the women came in second in the giant slalom and fourth in the slalom.
Senior Ken Thoman (Lebanon, Ohio) finished seventh in the slalom with a total time of 1:41.41. Junior Rich Granger (Princeton, Mass.) came in eighth with a total time of 1:42.56. Sophomore Beau Gibson (Oakland, Md.) finished seventh in the giant slalom with a total time of 1:40.67. Granger and Thoman were eighth and ninth, respectively, with total times of 1:40.79 and 1:41.31 in the giant slalom.
On the women's side, senior Lauren Brodey (Jamesville, N.Y.) finished fifth in the slalom with a total time of 1:49.75. She was also 10th in the giant slalom with a total time of 1:48.81. Junior Carolyn Lewenberg (Newton, Mass.) finished third with a mark of 1:44.58 in the giant slalom.
Both teams will compete in the Smith Carnival Feb. 15-16 at Berkshire East in Charlemont, Mass. This is the final regualr season race before the NCAA qualifiers.
