Jen Butler Named A-10 Player Of The Week

AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts women's basketball senior center Jennifer Butler (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week as announced by the league office this morning. It marks the second time Butler has received this award in three weeks.
Butler scored tied her career-high with 30 points and pulled down a school-record 30 rebounds in the Minutewomen's 78-70 double-overtime loss to the University of Florida in the first round of the State Farm Classic last night. The 30 boards is the fifth-highest single-game tally in NCAA Division I history and the most of any A-10 player. In addition, Butler dished out a pair of assists and had five steals in the loss to the Gators.
Butler is currently second in the conference averaging 17.8 points per game and leads the nation pulling down 15.1 rebounds per game. She is also 11th in the A-10 with a 2.2 steals per game average and tops the conference in both offensive (6.2) and defensive (8.9) boards.
With two consecutive 30-point games, Butler has moved into seventh-place on the all-time UMass scoring chart with 1,179 points. Crystal Carroll ('97) is in sixth-place with 1,405 points.
Massachusetts will play No. 25 Michigan in the consolation game of the State Farm Classic this afternoon at 5:00 p.m. at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center on the campus of the University of Florida. The Minutewomen are now 8-2 on the season after last night's heart-breaking loss. The Wolverines handed UMass its first loss of the season on Nov. 29, 91-65, in Ann Arbor, Mich. Florida and Virginia will play in the championship game at 7:30 p.m.
