Final Stats

AMHERST, Mass. (AP) - Ryan Cosentino was 34-of-55 for 364 yards and two touchdowns, including a 4-yard scoring pass to Marques Colston with just 2:18 to play, to give Hofstra a 31-28 win over Massachusetts on Saturday.

Massachusetts drove inside the Hofstra 10-yard line in the final seconds, but quarterback Tim Day was sacked at the 5 to end the game.

Hofstra (5-6, 4-5 Atlantic 10) trailed 14-10 at halftime, but took a 24-14 lead after three quarters on Cosentino's 7-yard touchdown pass to Isaac Irby and his 1-yard run.

But the Minutemen (7-4, 5-3) went ahead 28-24 in the fourth quarter when R.J. Cobbs scored on a 1-yard run and Day scored on a 5-yard run. Cobbs led all runners with 89 yards on 19 carries.

Massachusetts got on the scoreboard early when Shannon James intercepted Cosentino's pass at the Hofstra 49 early in the game. On the next play, Day passed to Jason Peebler for the touchdown.

Hofstra made it 7-3 on Chris Onorato's 32-yard field goal.

On the second play of the second quarter, the Minutemen capped a 62-yard drive with a 13-yard run by Cobbs for a 14-3 lead.

Hofstra closed the gap to 14-10 halftime on a 73-yard drive engineered by the passing of Cosentino, with Trevor Dimmie lunging the final yard for the score.

Hofstra's Rick Bryant had nine catches for 113 yards and the Pride were limited to 9 yards net rushing.
