AMHERST, Mass. -- University of Massachusetts men's basketball fans can check out the 2002-03 Minutemen, Saturday, Oct. 26th, at the team's annual Midnight Madness celebration in the Mullins Center.
Doors at the Mullins Center will open at 10:30 p.m., and while admission is free, fans are urged to pick up tickets for the event in advance at the Mullins Center Box Office or the Campus Center. Fans may also get their tickets at the Mullins Center gates the night of the event. The tickets are used for eligibility for various contests which will be held throughout the evening.
The action-packed night includes fireworks, prizes and giveaways, but the highlight of the evening will be the introduction of the 2002-03 Minutemen and the annual slam dunk contest. The evening will feature a Halloween theme, and the winner of the costume contest will receive a $500 shopping spree.
Other giveaways include a spring break trip to Cancun, a semester of wings from the Hangar, a $300 book scholarship, and much, much more. The evening will also include a highlight video, and performances by the UMass cheer and dance teams.
"This is always a great night for the fans and players, and we are looking forward to it," said UMass coach Steve Lappas, whose 2002-03 team opens its season with a Nov. 7 exhibition game against the NIKE All-Stars. "It should be a great night for everyone."
This year's celebration will again be televised live by WGGB-TV (Channel 40) in Springfield, beginning at 11:35 p.m. The morning show duo of Quinn and Cantara of the Lazer, WLZX 99.3 FM in Northampton, will again host this year's event.
