ITHACA, N.Y. - The University of Massachusetts women's gymnastics team dropped a 189.250-187.925 decision to Cornell here on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Minutewomen fall to 1-2 overall, while Cornell improves to 2-0 on the season.
Juniors Megan Donoghue (Tewksbury, Mass.), Katie Teft (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Jen Gendron (Shrewsbury, Mass.) again led the Minutewoman effort. Donoghue, who captured the all-around title a week ago at Yale, recorded a team-leading 37.450 in the all-around. She led the Minutewomen on both vault and balance beam, finishing in second place on vault and tied for third on beam, overall.
For the third consecutive week, Teft recorded the meet's highest score on uneven bars, posting a 9.775. Dating back to last season, she has now won the uneven bars competition at seven consecutive dual-meets.
Gendron captured the floor exercise competition for the second consecutive meet, recording a 9.825, two-tenths better than any other competitor.
The Minutewomen will remain on the road next weekend as they travel to Morgantown, W.Va., to compete against Kentucky, George Washington and host West Virginia in the Governor's Cup on Saturday, Feb. 2.
