AMHERST, Mass. -- University of Massachusetts senior water polo player Mike Foley (Tustin, Calif.) was named CWPA Northern Division Player of the Week, as announced today by the league office. Foley scored 10 goals in three league wins for the 13th-ranked Minutemen (10-1) last weekend.
With the 10 goals last weekend, Foley now has a team second-best 18 for the season. He also helped the Minutemen improve to 10-1 by assisting on two other goals, and drawing two ejections and one penalty shot. He scored the only two goals of the second half in UMass' 4-2 win over No. 17 Harvard in front of a hostile crowd in Cambridge, Mass.
Foley was a four-year letterwinner under Boyd Philpot at Tustin H.S., where he was league MVP and second-team All-America as a senior.
Foley is the second Minuteman this season to receive this honor. Last week, senior Greg Trayer (Reading, Pa.) earned the award for his 13 goal effort at the Harvard Invitational, Sept. 8-9.
The Minutemen will host Brown this evening at the Pratt Pool on the campus of Amherst College. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
