AMHERST, Mass. -- University of Massachusetts senior water polo player Greg Trayer (Reading, Pa.) was named CWPA Northern Division Player of the Week as announced this morning by the league office for the week of September 12.

Trayer scored 13 goals in four games as he helped the 13th-ranked Minutemen (8-1) to wins over Iona, Brown, M.I.T., and then No. 20 Harvard. He scored six goals in the triple-overtime victory over the Crimson.

For the season, Trayer has now netted 19 goals and assisted on four others in 30 quarters. He leads the team with 23 points and a .704 shooting percentage. He has also forced 11 ejections.

"Greg had a great weekend," said head coach Russ Yarworth. "He helped lead the team to four key wins."

Trayer played water polo for four years under coach Kyle Zeiber at Governor Mifflin H.S. in Reading, Pa., where he tallied 299 goals, 127 assists, and 132 steals. He helped lead the Mustangs to a Pennsylvania state championship in 1997. Trayer's senior honors included team and state MVP, first team all-east and All-American.

The Minutemen will be in action next Saturday, Sept. 22, when they travel to Cambridge, Mass., to take on CWPA league foes M.I.T., Boston College and No. 17 Harvard.
