Men's Water Polo Announces Nine New Recruits

AMHERST, Mass. -- University of Massachusetts head water polo coach Russ Yarworth has announced the nine players that complete his 2001 recruiting class. Of the nine, seven are expected to see playing time in 2001.
Conor Boughey (San Raphael, Calif.) was a four-year standout at Marin Catholic H.S. He was first-team all-league as a junior and senior as well as a member of the U.S. Water Polo Zone Six A Team his junior year. "Conor is a hard-nosed defensive specialist," said Yarworth. "He possesses excellent skills and attitude.
Cole Chassy (Morgan Hills, Calif.) played two seasons at Live Oak H.S. His senior honors included team MVP, sixth team All-America, honorable mention all-section, and first team all-league. He is the brother of Kelly, who is a member of the UMass women's water polo team. "Cole has excellent ball skills and has exhibited strong leadership in both club and high school ball," said Yarworth. "As he develops his strength and swimming ability, he will be a player to watch."
Nick Koenemann (St. Louis, Mo.) competed on the Parkway Central H.S. water polo squad for four years. "Nick has the size, strength, and ability to develop into one of the top two-meter players in UMass history." Koenemann was named second team all-state and first team all-conference sophomore through senior seasons and was named the Missouri Water Polo Player of the Year as a senior.
Chris Love (Haleiwa, Hawaii) comes to UMass after leading his conference in both scoring and steals a year ago. "A leading player out of Kahuka H.S., Chris has a two-way ability that predicts a great future for him in the collegiate game," said Yarworth.
Mark Servidio (Seacaucus, N.J.) was a four-year letterwinner in water polo at St. Benedict's Prep. He was named his teams MVP during his senior year. "Mark is a very enthusiastic and motivated player," said Yarworth. "He should see good things in his future."
Jad Vonderheid (Annapolis, Md.) received four letters at Broadneck H.S. During his senior year he a member of the Junior Olympic team that finished second in the nation. As a co-captain senior year, he led his team to the high school Eastern Championship. "A talented and well-respected player out of the Navy Junior Program, Jad will be one of the fastest players in the water," said Yarworth.
Adam Zobler (San Jose, Calif.) was a four-year letterwinner at Archbishop Mitty H.S. His senior year honors include team captain and MVP, first team all-league, and first team all-conference. "A top player out of Northern California, Adam boasts size, speed, and a tremendous outside shooting ability," said Yarworth.
The other two, Garrison Beal (Suffield, Conn.) and Adam Polanger (Orinda, Calif.) will red-shirt this season.
