ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Massachusetts women's gymnastics team recorded a score of 188.525, but it was not enough as the Minutewomen finished in sixth place at the 2001 NCAA Northeast Regional Championship, held at Crisler Arena on the campus of the University of Michigan. Big Ten Conference champion Michigan won the meet with a score of 197.225, followed by Pacific-10 Conference champion Stanford with a total of 196.725. Louisiana State finished in third place with a 196.300, while New Hampshire came in fourth with a 194.225 and Rhode Island placed fifth at 189.075.

Sophomore Megan Donoghue (Tewksbury, Mass.) led the Minutewomen in the meet, recording the team's best or second-best score on floor exercise, balance beam and vault. Donoghue had a team-high 9.650 on floor, while also recording a 9.625 on balance beam and a 9.575 on vault. Senior Mary Moore (Coral Springs, Fla.) also had a strong meet, recording a team-best 9.725 on balance beam and a 9.500 on vault.

Junior Tracy Chew (Silver Spring, Md.) recorded UMass' top score on vault with a 9.650, while freshman Mellory Giberson (Bingham, Maine) posted a 9.575 on vault. Seniors Jobi Dan'Sy (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Kyla Palombini (Peekskill, N.Y.) tied for the team's second-best score on floor exercise, both recording a 9.550. Giberson led the Minutewomen on uneven bars with a 9.675, followed by Dan'Sy with a 9.650 and sophomore Kelly Hanson (Harvard, Mass.) with a 9.525.

UMass has now concluded its season. The Minutewomen posted an overall record of 11-7, and placed second at the Atlantic 10 Championship.
