Coyner Selected To the Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team

AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts senior Kathy Coyner (Belpre, Ohio) was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team as selected by the conference sports information directors.
Coyner, a 5-6 guard, started all 27 games for the 12-17 Minutewomen this season, averaging a team-high 36.8 minutes per game. She led the team in scoring (12.9 per game), free throw percentage (.821) and assists (4.5 per game) and tied for the lead with a career-high 58 steals. Coyner led the team in scoring 11 times this season, including a career-high 25 points on December 8th against James Madison, and has had 23 double-figure games this year giving her 62 for her career.
Coyner became the first women's basketball player and second basketball player in UMass history to finish their career with 500 assists and 1,000 points. Men's basketball player Alex Eldridge (1975-78) is the only player to have recorded such numbers, finishing his career with 518 assists and 1,053 points. She reached the 1,000 point milestone on February 28th against Fordham, becoming the 12th player in the programs history to reach the mark. She ended her career last Saturday (Mar. 3) with 1,132 points and 515 assists.
Coyner, a biochemistry major, is a seven-time Athletic Director's Honor Roll member (3.0+) as well as a past member of the Dean's List.
Coyner was named to the Verizon Academic All-District I Women's Basketball First Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on February 22nd and advances to the national Academic All-America ballot.
