AMHERST, Mass. - Sophomore guard Kristin Cannon (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) scored a game and career-high 17 points, on 3-of-6 shooting from three-point land, to lead the University of Massachusetts to a 76-45 win over St. Bonaventure this afternoon. The win improves the Minutewomen to 10-11 overall and 5-5 in the Atlantic 10, while the Bonnies fall to 6-15 on the year, and 2-8 in conference play.

Cannon, starting the first game of her career, knocked down two treys in the opening two minutes of the game as UMass took command of the game early. The Minutewomen led 23-11 on the second of two free throws by Jennifer Butler (Brooklyn, N.Y.), and took a 39-19 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Kathy Coyner (Belpre, Ohio) scored 13 of her 15 points in the first half as UMass shot 11-of-26 (42.3%) from the field, including a 5-for-11 showing from behind the three-point arc. Butler, who went down with a leg injury late in the first half, scored all 10 of her points before halftime and grabbed six rebounds.

UMass, which forced St. Bonaventure into 29 turnovers, stretched its lead to 30 points (68-38) late in the second half on a lay-up by Caroline Nehls (Randolph, N.J.), who scored eight points. Amber Sneed also reached double figures for the Minutewomen as she scored 11 points and had six rebounds. UMass was outrebounded 35-31, but controlled the paint all afternoon, outscoring the Bonnies 38-19 in the lane.

St. Bonaventure was led by Melissa Fazio's 13 points and Trisha Raniewicz' 11.

The Minutewomen return to action on Thurday, Feb. 8, as they travel to the Bronx, N.Y. to take on Fordham. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
