AMHERST, Mass. - Dayton's Chrissy Donovan drained five three-pointers and finished with a game-high 19 points as the Flyers defeated the University of Massachusetts, 59-55, on Senior Day at the Mullins Center. UMass closes out the regular season at 11-16 and 6-10 in the Atlantic 10, while Dayton improves to 15-12 and 9-7 in conference play.
The Minutewomen jumped out to a 13-4 lead just five and a half minutes into the game, and took a 39-29 lead into the locker rooms at halftime. Senior Kathy Coyner (Belpre, Ohio) scored 11 of her team-high 17 points before intermission, while freshman Paige Harris (Rochester, Mich.) netted 10 of her 12 points in the first 20 minutes on 4-of-4 shooting from the field.
But Dayton went on a 13-1 run at the beginning of the second half to take the lead (42-40), and the Flyers would never trail again. The Minutewomen, who shot 53.3% in the first half, were plagued by a 7-for-33 showing from the floor in the second half, and were outrebounded 43-32.
Sophomore Jennifer Butler (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was the only other UMass player in double figures as she scored 12 and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.
Dayton's Stephanie Miller also scored in double figures for the Flyers, as she had 16 and a game-high eight rebounds.
