AMHERST, Mass. -- University of Massachusetts men's water polo senior Mike Foley (Tustin, Calif.) was named Collegiate Water Polo Association Northern Division Player of the Week, as announced this afternoon by the league office.

Foley scored 11 goals and added an assist as the 13th-ranked Minutemen won four games last week, including the ECAC championship. Foley also added eight steals and drew five ejections on the weekend. He now leads the team with 48 goals in just 73 quarters and is currently in sixth-place all-time with his 164 career goals.

This is the second time that Foley has been named the conference's player of the week. He is the third different Minuteman to win this accolade in 2001. He was also named co-WHMP/UMass Athlete of the Week today.

The Minutemen are the second-seed at this weekend's CWPA Northern Division Play-offs. They will play M.I.T. and Connecticut College in the first round and then the teams will be re-seeded based on their performance. The top four teams will meet the top four from the Southern Division for the Eastern Championship Nov. 17-18, in Princeton, N.J.
