AMHERST, Mass. -- The University of Massachusetts men's tennis team fell to rival UConn, 5-2, this afternoon at the Upper Boyden Courts. The Minutemen conclude the fall season with a 3-4 record.
UConn took the doubles point to start the match off so the Minutemen were forced to win four out of the six singles matches in order to secure the victory. They started off well as both senior Steve Prisco (Dedham, Mass.) and freshman Scott Sans Leeb (Lafayette, Calif.) were victorious at first and third singles, but the Minutemen dropped the remaining four matches and the match. Prisco knocked off Mike Furman at No. 1 (6-3, 6-4), while Sans Leeb topped Andy Sweatt at No. 3 in an exciting three set duel (6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (10-8).
While the fall season is over for the Minutemen, both Prisco and senior Todd Champeau (Waukesha, Wis.) will represent UMass at the Omni Hotels Regional Championship in Princeton, N.J.
