Massachusetts Cruises Past Rhode Island, 78-46

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Monty Mack scored a game-high 29 points to lead Massachusetts to a 78-46 win over Rhode Island on Tuesday at the Providence Civic Center.
Rhode Island had pulled within 21-18 on two foul shots by Marbury with 7:53 to play in the first half. Shannon Crooks responded with a 3-pointer, which began a 14-4 Massachusetts run.
The first half ended with Rhode Island trailing 35-22. Rhode Island pulled within 39-30 on a 3-pointer by Zach Marbury and a basket by Dinno Daniels two minutes into the second half.
Massachusetts responded with a 15-4 run, giving the Minutemen a 54-32 lead with 11:36 to play.
Jackie Rogers led the scoring stretch with six points. Rogers scored all 13 of his points during the second half.
Mack scored nine of his 21 first-half points during that stretch and had back-to-back 3-pointers.
Rhode Island was out-rebounded 45-22 in the game with Eric Williams grabbing a game-high 12 for Massachusetts. After a Rogers lay-up with 12:52 to play in the second made the score 52-32, Rhode Island never got the deficit under 20 points again.
Marbury was the only Rhode Island player to score in double figures with 22 points.
