A LOOK AHEAD: The UMass men's outdoor track & field team will travel to Blacksburg, Va. for the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track & Field Championships, starting on Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
A-10 PREVIEW : The Minutemen will attempt to capture the Atlantic 10 title away from Virginia Tech this weekend in Blacksburg. The Hokies have won the last three A-10 Championships, finishing just ahead of the Minutemen last year. Senior Vic Morency (N. Dartmouth, Mass.) is the favorite to repeat in both the javelin and in the discus after setting conference meet records in both events last year. This season Morency is on top of the standings in both events, while also ranking second in the shot put. This past weekend, Morency placed second in the discus at the Penn Relays while settig a new UMass record with a throw of 183' 9", breaking the 27-year old record of 182'. Morency also placed fifth in the javelin at the Penn Relays. On Sunday, he came back and won the discus and placed second in the shot put at the Yale Invitational. Morency now holds three school records and ranks in the top four all-time in two additional events. His performance this past weekend at the Penn Relays garnered another Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week honor, his third this season.
