AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts men's tennis team picked up a 5-2 victory over Hartford today in Amherst, to improve to 3-9 in the Spring and 8-9 overall this season.
The Minutemen started out the match in doubles action, capturing the doubles point off wins by their No. 2 and 3 duos. Senior Parsa Samii (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and freshman Will Shaw (Norwell, Mass.) won in the No. 2 slot, defeating Nemania Bala and Anthony Russo, 8-4. The tandem of sophomore Todd Champeau (Waukesha, Wisc.) and senior Marco Casesa (Floral Park, N.Y.) were victorious over Casey Johnston and Dan Mork in the No. 3 position, 8-3.
In singles play, Champeau defeated Mork in the No. 5 slot (7-6, 4-6, 7-6), while junior Bill Greener (Walpole, Mass.) won in straight sets at No. 6 over Russo (6-2, 6-0). Senior Bo Navarro (San Diego, Calif.) and Samii both won their matches at the No. 3 and 4 positions by default.
The Minutemen will host Fordham on April 7 at 1 p.m. at the Upper Boyden Tennis Courts.
