PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Senior Vic Morency (N. Dartmouth, Mass.) sat out the javelin competition on Saturday, but still managed to win both the discus and shot put competitions at Brown University.
UMass finished in fifth place in the six team event with 95 points. Brown won the tight contest with 129 points, followed by URI with 127 in second place. Northeastern took third with 100 points, with Southern Connecticut in fourth with 97 points. Providence finished last in the meet with 58 points.
Morency continued his assault on the UMass record books with his performance on Saturday. His throw of 181' 11" in the discus is a new personal best and is just one inch shy of the UMass record. His shot put throw of 52' 1 3/4" put him in fourth place on the all-time UMass charts in that event.
Senior Ben Baraldi (Longmeadow, Mass.) was also an individual event winner. He out-sprinted the competition with a 14.57 time in the 110 meter hurdles. His time of 14.55 seconds in the prelims was just .08 seconds off his career best performance.
UMass will return to action next weekend at UConn. The Minutemen will compete in a six team competition starting Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
