AMHERST, Mass. (AP) - Alison MacFarland scored 14 points, including the 1,000th of her career, to lead Massachusetts to a 67-54 victory over No. 25 George Washington on Thursday night, snapping the Colonials' six-game winning streak.

MacFarland, who started the game with 992 points, reached the milestone on a layup 32 seconds into the second half that gave UMass the lead for good at 29-28.

Amber Sneed then hit consecutive 3-pointers to send the Minutewomen on their way to only their sixth win in 31 games against the Colonials.

Kathy Coyner had 12 points and forward Nekole Smith added 10 for UMass (11-13, 8-5 Atlantic 10).

Elisa Aguilar had 13 points for George Washington (20-4, 11-2), which had won 18 of its last 19 games.

UMass, which has struggled offensively this season, shot 50 percent from the field, including 59.1 in the second half, but was only 17-for-30 from the free throw line.

UMass led 13-7, but the Colonials came back to take a 28-25 halftime lead.
