BOSTON (AP) - Kitwana Rhymer scored 10 points and Ronell Blizzard grabbed 14 rebounds as Massachusetts beat Boston University 68-52 Thursday night.
The win snapped a six-game losing streak for UMass, now 2-6, while BU dropped to 5-3.
UMass led 30-19 at halftime and opened up its lead midway throughout the second half. A 10-2 run, keyed by 5-for-5 shooting from the foul line by Eric Williams, gave UMass a 53-34 lead with 11:09 remaining.
Winston Smith's 3-pointer with 4:17 left gave UMass a 67-43 lead, its biggest of the game.
The two teams combined to score less than 20 points in the first 10 minutes of the game. With 9:17 left in the first half, a Shannon Crooks jumper gave UMass the lead for good, 10-8.
Both teams shot poorly in the first half. Boston U. made just 8 of 27 attempts, while UMass was 11 for 29 from the field.
Massachusetts had an advantage at the foul line, making 20 of 26 attempts. BU took only 10 free throws, making 6.
For BU, Matt Turner had 12 points and Billy Collins added 11.
