Men's Basketball Falls To Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) - Josh Sankes scored 25 points and had 17 rebounds and Juan Pegues scored eight in a decisive 15-5 second-half run to give Holy Cross a 78-65 victory over Massachusetts Saturday.
Pegues and Tim Szatko each scored 13 points for Holy Cross (2-1). Massachusetts (1-2), which shot 22 percent from the field in the second half, was led by Monty Mack with 13.
Mack's 3-pointer gave Massachusetts an early 13-7 lead, but Sankes and Jared Curry led a Holy Cross run that tied the game at 24-24 with less than five minutes to play in the first half.
Guards Shannon Crooks and Jonathan DePina ignited a 12-4 half-ending run to give Massachusetts a 36-28 halftime lead.
Sankes, Pegues and Szatko dominated inside in the second half and Pegues' 3-point play tied it 39-39.
Holy Cross then held Massachusetts without a field goal for 6:12 as Sankes and Pegues stretched the Holy Cross lead to 53-43 with 6:19 remaining.
Mack and Kitwana Rhymer (10 points) each scored a basket to cut the margin to 54-47 with 5:25 left, but Massachusetts never got closer.
Holy Cross converted six free throws and Pegues scored again to extend the lead to 66-53 with 2:30 left.
