UMass Men's Tennis Tops Rhode Island, 7-0

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts men's tennis team swept Rhode Island today at the Upper Boyden Courts 7-0, to remain unbeaten on the year.
Freshman Brent Davis (San Diego, Calif.) beat URI's Phil Johnson 6-2, 6-3, to improve his record to 5-0 (10-1 overall). Also picking up singles wins for the Minutemen were Steve Prisco (Dedham, Mass.), Todd Champeau (Waukesha, Wis.), Aron Gortman (Beverly Hills, Calif.), Will Shaw (Norwell, Mass.), and Bill Greener (Walpole, Mass.).
On the doubles court, Champeau/Phillip Rodriques (Estoril, Portugal) suffered the only defeat for the Maroon and White. The Minutemen were able to pick up the doubles point as the tandems of Prisco/Davis and Shaw/Rory Theis (Bloomington, Minn.) both won their matches.
The Minutemen will be in action next on Saturday, Oct. 21, when they will host the Red Storm of St. John's at the Upper Boyden Courts at 2:00.
