AMHERST, Mass. (AP) - Nate Green made three free throws in the final seconds as Dayton overcame a 12-point first-half deficit to turn back Massachusetts 57-52 Thursday night.

Monty Mack sank four straight free throws to get UMass within two, 54-52, with 35 seconds to play. UMass then got the ball back on a turnover, but Chris Kirkland missed an 8-footer and Green clinched it for Dayton with his three from the line.

Brooks Hall had 13 points and Tony Stanley and David Morris 10 apiece to lead the Flyers (13-3, 3-1 Atlantic 10), who are off to their best start in 21 years. Kirkland had 15 points and Mack had 14 for UMass (8-8, 3-1).

The Minutemen led 30-18 at intermission, but collapsed in the second half, getting outscored 20-3 in the first seven minutes.
