Women's Gymnastics Places First At Springfield College

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts women?s gymnastics team finished first out of four squads at Springfield College on Jan. 15 in Springfield, Mass. The Minutewomen finished with a score of 184.375, while Ithaca placed second at 178.775. Springfield College came in third at 177.200, while Cortland finished in fourth at 176.900.
Freshman Megan Donoghue (Tewksbury, Mass.) came in third in the all-around event with a 35.125 mark. UMass swept the balance beam event with senior Mandy Mosby (Lilburn, Ga.) winning the event (9.600) and junior Mary Moore (Coral Springs, Fla.) placing second (9.550). Freshman Katie Teft (Grand Rapids, Mich.) finished in third place (9.525).
Junior Kyla Palombini (Peekskill, N.Y.) came in third on the floor exercise with a score of 9.575. Teft won the uneven bars with a mark of 9.775, while senior Rene Franklin (Austin, Texas) finished in third at 9.100.
The Minutewomen swept the vault, as well, with freshman Jen Gendron (Shrewsbury, Mass.) winning the event (9.475) and Moore and Teft tying for second and third at 9.450.
UMass is next in action on Jan. 22 versus New Hampshire at home in the Boyden Gymnasium at 4 p.m.
