Men's Water Polo Splits Pair Of Games

PRINCETON, N.J. - The No. 12 University of Massachusetts men?s water polo team fell to No. 17 Princeton, 11-9, but defeated Johns Hopkins, 9-3 at the Princeton Invitational at DeNunzio Pool on the campus of Princeton University. UMass is now 8-2 overall (4-0 CWPA).
Senior Pat Kain (Ambler, Pa.) scored three goals and senior Rich Slingluff (Annapolis, Md.) added two in the loss. The Tigers broke a 6-6 half time tie with two straight goals to open up the third quarter. Senior co-captain Richard Huntley (San Juan, Puerto Rico) made eight saves to lead the UMass defense. With the loss, UMass is now 9-3 all-time against Princeton.
Sophomores Mike Foley (Tustin, Calif.) and Evan Lutz (Laguna Hills, Calif.) each scored two goals to lead the Minutemen in scoring in the win over John Hopkins. UMass dominated the match by scoring the first six goals of the game. Huntley made three saves in the first half, while freshman back up goalie Rafael Santana (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) made six saves in the second half. UMass improves to 3-0 all-time against the Blue Jays.
The Minutemen continue play in the Princeton Invitational tomorrow at 10:05 a.m., when they take on No. 11 St. Francis. UMass lost to St. Francis, 7-12 earlier this season at the Navy Invitational.
