1999-2000 CAMPAIGN: The Minutemen, under the direction of head coach Judy Dixon (Southern California ?73), posted an 11-12 record, including a sixth-place finish in the Atlantic 10 Conference during the 1998-99 campaign. Dixon, who is in her seventh-year at UMass, is 146-89 with the Minutemen. UMass will open up at the Northeast Intercollegiate Tournament on Sept. 24-26, which will be hosted by Brown University.
FUN IN THE SUMMERTIME: Sophomore Steve Prisco (Dedham, Mass.) gained some quality playing experience this summer in pre-qualifying tournaments. Prisco lost in the finals of the Hall of Fame Tournament in Newport, R.I., and was a semifinalist in the Longwood Tournament at Time Manor. Prisco will likely fill the No. 1 spot on this year?s rotation. He finished last season with an 8-12 singles and a 9-9 doubles mark.
FAB FRESHMAN: Dixon has brought in some talented freshman this season in Will Shaw (Norwell, Mass.) and Justin Simpson (Valley Stream, N.Y.). Shaw went undefeated (55-0) in his career at Norwell H.S., while Simpson posted a 29-4 mark at Valley Stream Central H.S.
