Anke Bruemmer Scores Two Goals to Lead Field Hockey To 2-0 Win over St. Joseph's

Amherst, Mass. - Sophomore back Anke Bruemmer (Koeln, Germany) scored two penalty corner goals to lead UMass to a key 2-0 win over St. Joseph?s in Atlantic 10 field hockey action Friday evening. With the win the Minutewomen improve to 8-8 on the year and a perfect 4-0 in Atlantic 10 play. St. Joseph?s falls to 11-4 overall and 2-1 in conference action.
Bruemmer scored early in the game connecting on a penalty corner shot from junior Patty Robinson (Norwood, Mass.) and junior Lucy Koch (Ipswich, Mass.) to take the 1-0 lead. The Minutewomen scored again on a penalty corner in the second half, as Bruemmer, the Minutewomen?s leading scorer, blasted home another well placed feed from Koch and Robinson at 42:57 to secure the 2-0 victory.
Junior goaltender Zowie Tucker (Neath, South Wales) made four saves in the shutout win for UMass ,while SJU?s Lauren Bradley made 11 stops in the cage for the Hawks.
The Minutewomen return to action on Sunday when they take on Temple in the last remaining Atlantic 10 conference game of the year. Game time is scheduled for noon.
