The three-time all-American (1st Team - 1998, 1999; 3rd Team - 2000) is the career leading rusher in UMass football history and also in the history of the Yankee/Atlantic 10/CAA conferences (6,250 yards). His rushing total ranked among the top-10 in FCS history upon his graduation, while he also ranked No. 10 in career all-purpose yards (7,759).

He rushed for more than 200 yards in a game seven times in his UMass career, including 244 yards and three touchdowns in leading UMass to its only National Championship in 1998.
The three-time first team all-conference selection (1998-2000) played for the Arizona Cardinals in the National Football League from 2001-2007. He rushed for almost 2,200 yards and 11 touchdowns in six NFL seasons.
Shipp returned to his alma mater as the team's running backs coach in 2014, a role he then held for the New York Jets in 2015 and 2016.
Shipp was inducted in the UMass Athletics Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2011.
