John Stewart

A three-sport standout at UMass, Stewart earned eight career letters. He won three letters in football and basketball and two in baseball.
Stewart captained the 1936 basketball team and was a member of the 1934 team that went undefeated (12-0). He was awarded the 1935-36 Samuel B. Samuels Basketball Cup for the highest free throw percentage.
In 1934, Stewart was awarded the George Henry Richards Memorial Cup for greatest improvement in leadership, sportsmanship, and individual and team play during the season.
Stewart was a member of the all-New England small college team in football and basketball. During his time, he was one of the leading pitchers on the baseball team, and served as a punter for the football team.
He was inducted into the UMass Athletics Hall of Fame in 1980.
