A standout soccer player at UMass from 1984-87, Debbie Belkin was a three-time first team all-America and all-New England (1985-87) selection. At the time of her graduation, she ranked third in career points, fourth in single-season goals, fourth in career goals, and fifth in career assists.

Belkin was chosen as the NCAA Final Four Defensive MVP in 1987. She was named to the Soccer America MVP team for the 1986 and 1987 seasons, and also appeared on the Soccer America All-Decade team for the 1980s. She was also a two-time NCAA All-Tournament Team selection (1985-86).

Belkin played six years on the United States Women's national team (1986-92), and was a member of the 1991 team that captured the first FIFA Women's World Cup.

Following her retirement from the US National Team, Belkin took the reigns of the Fairfield University program (1991-93) before an extended tenure at the University of Michigan in the same position (1994-2007).

Over 14 seasons leading the Wolverines, Belkin secured 11 winning campaigns, nine NCAA Tournament berths and a 160-108-37 overall record (.585). Michigan made its NCAA appearances in 1997, '98, '99, '00, '01, '02, '03, '04 and '07, with the 2002 squad reaching the quarterfinal round.

She also served as an assistant coach for the Tufts University (1988-89) and University of New Hampshire (1989-91) programs as well.
