Tennis Finds Success During Friday's ITA Regional Championships Play

Crawford advances to Round of 16 in singles bracket with pair of victories
PHILADELPHIA - University of Massachusetts tennis junior Ruth Crawford won twice during ITA Northeast Regional Championships competition and highlighted three Minutewomen in action Friday at the University of Pennsylvania.
Crawford won in straight-sets 6-2, 6-2 over Syracuse's Maria Tritou during the second round, which earned Crawford a match with No. 5 seeded Ashley Zhu from the host institution, the University of Pennsylvania. With a berth in the ITA Northeast Regional Championships Round of 16 up for grabs, Crawford dropped the first set, 6-1, before she rallied with back-to-back 6-4 victories for the berth in Saturday's competition.
Ana Yrazusta went 1-1 during singles play, as she won her second round action and fell during the third round. Yrazusta took on Princeton's Clare McKee in the second round and won the first set 6-4 for the early advantage. McKee set up a deciding third set with a 6-4 win in the second set, but Yrazusta responded with a convincing 6-2 triumph in the deciding third set for a trip to the third round. During her second match of the day, Yrazusta took on Harvard's Irene Lu and fell 6-1, 7-6 (5).Â
Janja Kovacevic took to the court in the second round of singles action as well and dropped her match to sixth-seeded Anna Shkudun from Syracuse.
Yrazusta, Laura Moreno and Crawford compete during Saturday's action at the ITA Northeast Regional Championship. Yrazusta and Moreno step onto the courts as doubles partners while Crawford enters the singles Round of 16.
