With Three Top-10 Finishes, Men's XC Wins CCSU Mini Meet

Erik Engstrom was the top finisher for the Minutemen in the 5K race, taking third overall.

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – University of Massachusetts men's cross country program celebrated a victory on Friday at the CCSU Mini Meet as three Minutemen enjoyed top-10 finishes in the field of 114 runners, propelling UMass to the top spot in a field of 21 teams with 57 points. Host Central Connecticut was the runner-up in the team standings with a score of 91.

Sophomore Erik Engstrom led the way for UMass in third overall. The East Hampton, New York, native finished the 5K in 15 minutes, 14.9 seconds.
On his heels, Dawson Bathgate was fifth overall with a time of 15:16.9 as the Minutemen's No. 2 scorer. The third runner across for UMass and eighth overall was junior Michael Famiglietti, clocking in at 15:23.9.

Sophomore Jackson Southard claimed 15th with a time of 15:29.6, in fourth for the Minutemen. Rounding out UMass' scorers was sophomore Kendall Westhoff who ran 15:40.0 to place 26th.

The Minutemen next head to Leesburg, Virginia for the Atlantic 10 Championships on Sat., Oct. 28. Race time is scheduled for 10 a.m.
