Tennis Wins Three Matches During Thursday's ITA Regional Championship Action

Yrazusta and Moreno advance through doubles second round, Kovacevic takes first singles match
PHILADELPHIA - University of Massachusetts tennis doubles partners Ana Yrazusta and Laura Moreno won a pair of matches while Janja Kovacevic downed her singles foe during the first day of competition for the Minutewomen at the 2017 ITA Northeast Regional Championships. With their victories, the Maroon and White trio continue participation in the weekend-spanning event.
Yrazusta and Moreno posted a pair of victories in doubles action on the day, by comfortable margins. First, the Maroon and White duo downed LIU Brookyln's Anna Grigoryan and Malin Leysen, 8-5 before they ousted No. 5 seeded Gabriela Knutson and Anna Shkudun of Syracuse, 8-4. With the back-to-back wins, Yrazusta and Moreno move on to the ITA Northeast Regional Championships Round of 16 on Saturday.
Kovacevic was the lone Minutewoman active in singles competition on Thursday. She breezed through the first set against Wagner's Vedika Anand before outlasting her opposition in the second set for a 6-0, 7-5 victory. Kovacevic joins Yrazusta and Ruth Crawford, who each received a bye as seeded players, in the second round of singles on Friday.
Crawford and Kovacevic also stepped onto the University of Pennsylvania courts in doubles action today, but dropped a first round match to Rutgers' Kat Muzik and Maya Jacobs, 8-5 and bowed out of doubles competition as a result.
