After helping the University of Massachusetts hockey team to a program-record ninth straight win, the longest active winning streak in the nation, sophomore Mitchell Chaffee
was chosen as the UMass Student-Athlete of the Week and was honored at Wednesday's UMass Sports Luncheon.
Chaffee led the charge for the Minutemen in their 7-4 victory over UConn last Friday night, posting a career-high four points against the Huskies on two goals and two assists, capping a perfect 7-0-0 November for UMass.
The Rockford, Michigan native was +3 against UConn with one of his goals coming on the power play. He put UMass on top, 3-2, in the second period after the Minutemen trailed 2-1 after one and later added his second of the night in the third period to put the Minutemen back in front for good after the Huskies tied the game at 3-3 early in the third.
Chaffee's performance marked fifth multi-point game of the season and brought his season totals to 10 goals and eight assists in 13 games. He is tied with teammate Cale Makar
for the Hockey East lead in points (18) and is tied for first in goals, as well.
A top-10 matchup awaits UMass this weekend as the No. 1 Minutemen will play No. 8 Quinnipiac in a home-and-home, beginning in Hamden, Connecticut on Friday night, Dec. 7, at 7 p.m.
