UMass Women's Crew Announces Hiring of Assistant Coach

The University of Massachusetts Women's Crew anncounces the hiring of Wendy Wilbur as assistant rowing coach. Wilbur returns to UMass after graduating with a bachelor degrees in both Communication and Sociology in 1995. She also received her masters degree in Labor Studies from UMass in 1997. During that time, Wilbur also served a season as a graduate assistant for the team.
Wendy has the distinction of being one of the top rowers ever to come out of UMass. She was a member of the first varsity program that won the 1995 Champion International Regatta. She Served as a team captain for the 1996 season and was a member of the 1997 NCAA silver medal varsity eight. Following graduation, Wendy immediately joined the ranks of the U.S. National team rowing in the women's eight in 1997 and 1998 picking up the world championship silver medal the second year. She was a bronze medalist in the woman's final four in 1999. This past summer she was one of the fianlists for the 2000 U.S. Olympic team just missing selection. She returned however to the world championships in early August placing fifth in the four. She is defending champion of the 1999 Head of the Charles woman's doubles event. She is a seven-time gold medalists at the U.S. National Championships and a four-time gold medalist at the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta.
